Featherston Volunteer Fire Service Team
Sandy and Stu want to give the Volunteer Fire Service Team from Featherston a huge thanks for their help yesterday afternoon. We were called to assist a horse that had gone down in a horse float just before the last bridge heading up the Rimutakas.
The poor horse was understandably quite distressed and wanting to thrash his legs about. Once we sedated him, the Fire Service Team gave us the most amazing help as we secured the horses legs with ropes so they could safely use "the jaws of life" to cut away parts of the horse float. Once we could see it was safe to get the horse out of the float several of their team got on our head rope and helped to carefully pull the horse free.
There was only a very small cut to one leg. The horse was loaded on to another float and taken a very short distance to recover on a local farm for the night.
The police did a great job with traffic control and we were also grateful an ambulance team were there to assist with any injuries. Trust us, this is a job that could have gone "pear shaped" really easily, but the great team work made for a safe outcome. Once again, a sincere thanks from Sandy and Stu.
