Wairarapa Equine Info Evening - Lameness

On Tuesday the 4th of December 2012, Wairarapa Equine, in conjunction with Seeds and Cereals, held a second very successful information evening at the Carterton Events Centre. Admission was by gold coin donation with the proceeds going to the Wairarapa branch of the RNZSPCA. Several hundred dollars were raised for this worthy cause and Val Ball from the local branch of the SPCA spoke at the evening with a chat about the valuable work that the SPCA perform here in the Wairarapa.

During this highly informative evening, resident Vet Dr Louisa Gleeson was accompanied by Farrier Marshall Miller NZFEP and Equine Therapist Juli Walters (Animals Back in Action) to discuss various aspects of equine lameness. After the talks had been made, guests were invited to move about the three interactive lameness stations that had been set up, one with each presenter. We were particularly lucky to have access to a set of painstakingly dissected out horse limbs from Massey University which provided a very visual and mechanical display of both the complexity and simplicity of the equine forelimb and hind limb. Really fascinating stuff!

Wairarapa Equine would like to thank all of those who attended this evening for their time and their donations and we hope you came away from the evening having learned something new which will enable you to better assess and care for your own horse/horses. We really hope to see you all again next time – the next talk will be in winter 2013 and is going to be around Equine Colic! In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this selection of photos taken at the event: Photo Gallery
